Checklist for the office

1. Humility
Consider all the people working alongside you. Colleagues as well as consultants and maintenance staff. Do you pay attention to all of them? Do you ever take the time to lift your gaze from the screen, or chat for a moment by the coffee-machine? Do you say pardon and sorry when you make your way past people on your way to work? There is always time to pay attention to and prioritize similar details. No style or accessories in the world can make up for an egotistic or self-centered attitude of indifference. Being nice to people around you, will generally take you way further than only focusing on delivering projects on deadlines.
2. Well-fitting timeless blazer
No matter whether you actually need a new blazer, or your old ones don’t fit as well as they used to, there is always good reason to address this matter. Maybe it is time to upgrade the trusty old coat you haven’t used for a while since the fit isn’t what it used to be? Invest in a new coat that covers your bum, or at least take the old one to your tailor to give it the nips and tucks it needs.3. Mindfulness
Do not email while being upset. Perhaps a wise person gave you the advice to "count to ten" as a child, before throwing a tantrum? There is more to this well worn piece of advice than what perhaps first meets the eye? It is sometimes easier said than done, but after practicing some intentional focus, you soon realize how many devastating situations you avoid doing so. 4. At least two pairs of good shoes
Maybe you once invested in a good pair of “office shoes”, that you use frequently? Then it is time to invest in another pair to add to your rotation. Surprisingly many people use the same pair of shoes several days a week, week after week, because they are their “office shoes”. Your shoes need time to dry and regain their shape between every use. While resting, a pair of good shoe trees are inserted in your shoes to soak up perspiration and straighten out the uppers to restore the shape of your shoes.5. Functional, stylish bag
No matter whether you cycle, drive or go by public transport to work, you need a bag that completes and harmonizes with your style, providing the storage you need on your journey. Choose your bag with care, an invest in long-lasting quality. You will thank yourself every time you pack your bag, and see how it ages with dignity and style. A good starting point is to choose a bag that harmonizes with the shoe colour you wear mostly.6. Necktie
Even if you don’t wear ties often, always make sure you own some to cover every possible occasion where you might need one. Even a tie worn just a few times can look horribly dated if you’ve had it for too long or bought it from a dealer selling ties according to current trends. Always make sure to have a couple to vary between, add a woollen or knitted tie for variation. Regimental stripes and white, fine polka dots are always go-to patterns.7. Your favourite shirt
A favourite type of shirt for many men is the Oxford shirt. Perhaps because it works just as well worn under a blazer as a sweater. If you wear it with a tie, make sure the collar is big enough accommodate a tight four in hand-knot.
